Chicago Wine Cellars – Achieve Ideal Wine Storage Conditions

Have you opened a wine bottle from your wine cellar and been disappointed when you tasted it? The wine that has not been stored properly usually has wine faults.

Wine lovers who plan to collect wines, have to make sure that they have enough knowledge about proper wine storage, the ideal wine storage solution for their needs, and the right budget for it.

There are several wine storage options that you can find on the market today. One of these is the wine cellar racks which are ideal for those who have a few wine bottles in their collection which are meant to be consumed early.

Wine Cellar Specialists Wine Rack Kits

Wine Cellar Specialists offer different wine rack kits and can also customize wine racks according to your personal preference. They also have refrigerated wine cabinets (also called wine cellar cabinets) which also function like a wine cellar. They are perfect for wine enthusiasts who don’t have the right budget and space for a wine cellar. They are available in different sizes and prices.

Why Invest in a Chicago Custom Wine Cellar?

In Chicago, many wine lovers have invested in residential wine cellars for many purposes. Custom wine cellars are designed mainly to provide a wine collector’s precious wines with optimal storage conditions. A wine cellar also enhances the beauty of the living space, provides a great place for wine-tasting parties with friends and colleagues, and allows the owner to buy wine in bulk.

Investing in a Chicago residential wine cellar requires time, money, and an expert wine cellar builder. It is necessary that you think about the design and type of wine cellar where you want to display your collection. Metal wine racks are used for constructing contemporary wine cellars, while wooden wine racks are for traditional wine cellars.

Since the wine cellar cooling system and door contributes a lot to achieving a climate-controlled environment in a wine cellar, it is essential that you choose the right one for your needs. The wrong door may cause the cooling system to work inefficiently and produce growth mold. Click here to learn about the types of custom wine cellar doors.

Residential Wine Cellar in a High Rise Condominium Atlanta Georgia

Residential Wine Cellar in a High Rise Condominium Atlanta Georgia

I’d like to take you on a tour of our latest custom wine cellars in Atlanta, Georgia project. This residential wine cellar was actually created in a high-rise condominium.  It created a few situations but nothing we couldn’t overcome.

This particular residential wine cellar holds a total of 997 bottles.  The room that this wine cellar was created in had four structural columns.  Actually, I believe two of the columns may have been structural, the others were not, but in order to make this look correct, we kept the columns and worked around them.

We added custom wine racks between the columns on the two sides of the back wall and then on the front wall some of the columns are 15 inches deep, we added a horizontal rack.  You’ll see that as we go along with the drawings.

You’ll notice in the drawings each elevation is designated by a letter.  The left and right walls are elevation A, the back wall is elevation B and the front sections here are elevation D, I don’t know what happened to elevation C.
Elevation A, the left and right walls have X bins on the bottom.  These are lattice X bins so it has a support rack where the back wall comes out this is not seen in the room when it’s completed.  You have a high reveal display row with a light balance above it and 750ml individual bottles above that.   These custom wine racks we made are 11 3/4 inches deep, simply so that they fit in with the columns.  You have a 1 1/2 inch toe kick and a 2 1/4 inch crown molding.

We’ll go to elevation B, the back wall.  We have a tall arch with a pot light opening and light valances over the display row, 750ml bottles up above, three X-cubes, and room four actually for case storage.  This bottom section is double deep.  Therefore, your X- bins are double deep as well as your case storage. It includes a tabletop area; the upper section with the 750s is single deep.

The elevation D is the little area right where you come into the room, next to the first columns on the left to the right.   Here we have horizontal display racks where your bottles are stored horizontally.

This is the overhead view of the room.  You can see your bottles can go in from the ends on this particular horizontal rack.

This is the back wall, you can see that we have lattice X bins and lattice case storage below.  Looking toward the custom wine cellar door, you can see that we have used the Tuscan door; it’s a square door with arched glass.  The whisper cooling unit is located above the custom wine cellar door.

This is your left wall and this is your right wall and back wall, and you can see we have the lattice bins, the 750s above, and the arch.

We are going to do a quick walk of some of the completed photos.  Here you can see the door.  This door is a Tuscan and Knotty Alder has the black hand-forged wrought iron, has a square top and arched glass and the stain is early American with number 850 moldings.

Overhead View – Wine Cellar Design

I’d like to walk you through the Reynolds wine cellar design and final photos.  What you’re looking at is the overhead plan view of the Reynolds Wine Cellars Seattle Washington and they have a sitting area out here and the wine cellar doors that enter into the wine cellar itself.

Each elevation is designated by a letter – elevation A being the back wall, elevation B the corners, and elevation C the two sidewalls.  You’ll notice there’s a total of 1,367 bottles in the Reynolds Wine Cellars Seattle Washington.

Elevation A is the back wall and this is the main while you look at when you come through the wine cellar doors. The Reynolds chose to do their wine cellar in kind of a French theme.  It is very elaborate with a lot of hand-carved detailing.

Wine Cabinets - Reynolds Wine Cellar Design

Wine Cabinets – Reynolds Wine Cellar Design

You have your solid wine cabinets with adjustable shelves at the bottom.  We have drawers above; these all have hand-carved grapevine designs.  We have drawers here under the cabinet doors.  These are glass cabinet doors with cathedral detailing.

You have a solid arch with a pop light opening.  We have shelves going up each side, individual bottle storage on the left and right, and above on the top.

You will also notice the columns, they are hand-carved columns, and they have to detail leaf design at the top and large detailed crown molding as well as a large detailed base molding.  The cabinet itself is 27 inches deep at the bottom which means it is a double-deep depth, and the top is 16 inches deep.

We move on to elevation B which are the corners.  These are the upper side of the corners and these are individual bottle racks.

X Bins and X Cubes - Wine Cellars Seattle Washington

Elevations C at the left and right sides; have horizontal display racks going across the center.  We have solid X bins and X cubes on the left and the right side.

Again we have the columns, the hand-carved columns, the large crown, and the large base.  We have LED lighting along the display row.  We have a 13 1/2 inch bottle depth here.  You have raised panels on the end of the left wall where it can be seen from the outside.

Here you have some detail on our carved crown molding and base molding.  Here are your details on the cathedral and on the crown molding detail on the end of the panel.  This looks like a chair rail but it’s actually the columns and it’s showing the LED ribbon lighting along the horizontal displays and the panel base molding detail.

Here’s the overhead 3D wine cellar design view and you can see the countertop and the way this is all situated with the double deep on the end, single deep on the sides, your left and back view, your right and back view, and a little more 3D drawings here.

Now I want to get into the finished product.  It is a beautiful wine room.  Here are a few pictures showing the cathedral windows and detailed hand-carved grapevine design, the solid arch, and here are the cathedral window wine cabinets open.

Again the carved detail on the drawers and here is actually at the plant when they were doing the hand carving on the drawers.  Here are your horizontal display rows, a little bit of some pictures here with the detailed crown, and your X bins.

3 Popular White Wines and Their Proper Wine Storage

White wines are wines derived from various grape varieties. They are usually made from the skin and/or juice of grapes; their color range from yellow-gold, yellow-green, to straw-yellow. White wines are typically paired with meals that are lighter and the ruling that “white wines are best with white meats” is still followed up today.

It is said that white wines have more cardiovascular benefits than red wines and also have antioxidants. There are a lot of varieties of white wines present in the market. Let us discuss the popular whites that are usually present in Chicago wine cellars and wine menus of restaurants.

Chardonnay
Let’s talk about Chardonnay, the “King” of white wine. Chardonnay originated in Bourgogne, France. It is the most popular white dating back to the 1980s. It is the most important ingredient in making sparkling wines- especially champagnes. Chardonnay is best paired with salmon, grilled chicken, shellfish, and pasta with white sauce.  It is said to be well-balanced in terms of taste.

It can be a bit sweet or fruity and sometimes has a hint of pear or apple flavor. If it is fermented in new oak barrels, a hint of buttery taste can be imparted into it. The top countries that grow Chardonnay vines are the USA, France, Australia, and Italy.

Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is acidic and crisp and is the lightest of all the white wines. It comes from a green-skinned grape that is grown in the Bordeaux region where it is blended with Semillon which is another type of white wine.

The taste of this wine usually depends on the climate. Its taste can be a bit citrusy and grassy. This is good to match seafood dishes and white meat. It also goes well with Chevre cheese and sushi.

Riesling
The last of the most popular and major types of white wine is Riesling. Riesling comes from the Rhine region in Germany. This wine is seldom oaked. In 2004, it was said to be the world’s 20th most grown variety. The character and quality of this wine are greatly influenced by the place where it originated.

In 2006, it was the variety that was mostly grown in Germany accounting for 20.8% of the world’s supply.  Riesling is commonly grown in cold locations and regions. Other countries that cultivate this variety are Canada, South Africa, China, Ukraine, and many others.

In terms of taste, Riesling has a lighter taste than Chardonnay. It has a fresh apple aroma. This is best paired with pork, fish, and chicken. Its crispiness is a good pair with tuna and salmon. It is also good with some Japanese dishes.

Proper Wine Storage for White Wines

White wines are best served at a temperature of 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. If you plan on preserving them, make sure to maintain a temperature of 52 to 57 degrees Fahrenheit in your Chicago wine cellar or wine refrigerated cabinet.

If you are just planning to store it up until it is consumed, for example, the day before a party, make sure that you maintain a temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit in your wine refrigerator. Remove wine from the fridge to warm it up a bit before serving it to your guests. Remember not to place it at an excessively cold temperature because it might flatten the aroma and vibrant flavors of the wine.

In terms of aging, white wines are not advised to be aged for a very long period of time. They are at their best when consumed at least two to three years from the year they originated. However, some white wines like Chardonnay, Riesling, and Sauternes of high quality are good when aged.

Chicago custom wine cellars are the best place to store your white wines because they are specially designed to maintain a constant temperature and humidity levels. When built well with the right wine cooling system and wine cellar door, your wine collection will be safe and protected in your wine cellar.

For people who do not have the space and budget for a custom wine cellar, a wine refrigerator or wine cabinet can be used instead. These wine storage solutions can also provide the right conditions needed for the graceful aging of your wines.

If you have a small wine collection and you don’t have the budget to invest in a wine cellar or wine cabinet, you may opt for a wine rack. Wine racks must be placed in a cool, dark area to preserve your wines’ desirable characteristics.

Hand Forged Quality Wrought Iron Wine Cellar Doors for Wine Cellars Dallas Texas

Wine Cellar Doors – An Essential Component of a Wine Cellar

Wine cellar doors are designed to help maintain the proper climate conditions in wine cellars in Dallas Texas, and at the same time add aesthetic value to the space.  In order for wine cellar entryways to be functionally efficient, they need to have weather stripping on all sides, automatic door bottoms, and a tight overall seal.

Since wine cellar entry doors are a critical component of a wine cellar design, they should be functional and visually appealing at the same time. There are two types of wine cellar doors: wrought iron and wood-based entry doors. They are constructed from various materials such as wood, glass, and wrought iron. Each material has its advantages and disadvantages but is nevertheless designed to preserve the cool environment of residential and commercial wine cellars.

For wine collectors who want to present an old-world charm to their custom wine cellar, wrought iron wine cellar doors can create the desired visual impact and aesthetic appeal to their storage space.  Cellar doors made from wrought iron are hand-forged by skilled and experienced craftsmen.  These installations also provide a customized appearance that can complement the existing interior of a wine cellar.

Wrought Iron Wine Cellar Doors – Quality and Aesthetics

Hand Forged Wrought Iron Wine Cellar Doors Dallas Texas

Wrought iron wine cellar doors in Dallas Texas are designed to secure the desired conditions for storing and aging wines.  They are custom-built to meet the needs and requirements of wine collectors.  Designs for these wine room entryways are conceived through auto cad drawings, which allow wine cellar builders to show detailed specifications, examine the end product, and make the required modifications before actual production takes place.

Wrought iron wine cellar doors in Dallas Texas are specifically engineered to withstand the elements and to provide optimum sealing.  They are constructed from combined 16 and 18-gauge steel, which ensures the amount of thickness necessary to keep up with the cool atmosphere.  Polyurethane foam is pumped into the entire door and frame to keep it well-insulated.

What the Team Did to Maintain The Optimum Temperature in A Wine Cellar with Wrought Iron Doors

To keep the door weather tight, foam and rubber weatherstripping is fitted snugly all around the door frame, glass frame, and door sweep.  Heavy-duty ball-bearing hinges are used because they are more durable and less noisy than standard hinges.

For additional insulating properties, dual pane tempered glass is used.  Dual-pane glass consists of two glass panes separated by air space.  Tempered glass goes through a thermal process that makes it five times stronger than standard glass.  It is also designed to break into oval-shaped pieces instead of shards.  Combining the characteristics of both produces a glass product that is not only energy-efficient but is also impact resistant.

Wine Cellar Owners Choose Wrought Iron Wine Cellar Doors for its Durability and Aesthetics

Wrought iron wine cellar doors come pre-hung on a custom manufactured steel frame.  They go through a series of weatherizing processes to protect them against outside elements.  Wrought iron entry doors are treated with layers of acrylic primer to inhibit oxidation.  In order to enhance the process of weatherization, additional layers of an acrylic black base, faux finishing, and sealant are applied.

Most design concepts for wrought iron entryways are a fusion of iron and glass materials.  Iron and glass wine cellar doors provide an elegant and dramatic portal to any wine storage room.  They are structures of style and character that can be enticing and appealing to the eyes.
